Being located in the heart of Jasper National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge recognizes the importance of sustainability and the responsibility we bear being a business in this beautiful landscape. Jasper Park Lodge has been globally recognized for its sustainable programs and practices. Preserving the natural environment for future generations is a core value of our historic lodge.
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is committed to providing its colleagues and guests with a luxury, eco-friendly experience. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has maintained a Five-Green Key Eco-Rating since 2018.
5 Green Key Eco-rating
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has proudly earned a 5 Green Key Eco-Rating Certification from Green Key Global for five consecutive years. This program recognizes hotels and lodging facilities for their commitment to improving environmental and fiscal performance when it comes to sustainable commitments. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has been featured on Green Key Global as an example of a large business effectively integrating sustainability into its operations.
Sustainable Cuisine
Jasper Park Lodge's culinary team proudly sources local Albertan food and OceanWise Certified fish (to prevent overfishing of at-risk species), whenever we can to support our local community and decrease environmental impact from our foods transportation carbon emissions. In addition, the Lodge has increased its growing capacity in the resort’s greenhouse to grow locally where we can. Since 1929, the greenhouse has grown many plants used around the property, and in 2020 it was upgraded to allow the capacity to grow microgreens and root vegetables that are utilized by their culinary team in the resort’s restaurants.
Toiletry Recycling
We partner with Soap for Hope Canada, which processes and distributes left over soaps, linens hygiene products and lost & found items that would otherwise be discarded, to impoverished communities and vulnerable individuals throughout Canada and nations around the globe. In 2021, Soap for Hope distributed over 16,000 Hygiene kits and over 342,000 essential hygiene products and linens.
Utility Retrofits
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has converted all light fixtures on property to energy efficient bulbs. Recently, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge renovated 300 guest bathrooms. All of the renovated bathrooms are now equipped with certified low-flow sink faucets, toilets, and showerheads which helps the resort reduce water consumption.
Dark Sky Preserve
Jasper National Park is the world’s largest accessible dark sky preserve in the world! Protecting our night sky from light pollution is extremely important to us which is why we have taken the following actions to reduce our energy consumption: We have committed to replacing all of our street lights to dark sky certified fixtures; having already converted the area around the Main Lodge, dining outlets host candle-lit dining experiences every Earth Hour and Earth Day, and we encourage all Heartists to remain energy-conscious at home and in the workplace throughout the year through the Power Down Campaign.
FireSmart Canada
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge have invested significant capital resources to remove major fire hazards around the hotel and surrounding property. Our passionate colleagues have also came together to conduct annual property and lake shore clean-ups to keep the property safe and clean for wildlife and guests. The resort participates in the FireSmart Safe Neighbourhood Program to further its commitment of keeping its communities safe from wildfires.
Single Use Plastic Reduction
The resort has made significant strides to reduce single-use plastic consumption, having eliminated all plastic straws, plastic cups and plastic water bottles from our operations. Accor has committed that all properties worldwide will eliminate all guest-facing single-use plastic by the end of 2022. With Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge’s state-of-the-art water treatment plant filtering glacier water directly from Lac Beauvert, guests and staff are encouraged to quench their thirst with some of the cleanest water in the world straight from our tap.
Net-zero Carbon Calculator
Accor’s Net-Zero Carbon Calculator helps Meeting & Event clients to calculate their carbon footprint and offset emissions by purchasing carbon credits to balance the remaining emissions. The solution is provided in collaboration with myclimate.org, a Swiss non-profit organization and global leader in carbon accounting and climate protection.
Electric Vehicles & Charging Stations
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is proud to support numerous electric vehicle charging stations on our property. Additionally, the resort’s 50+ vehicle fleet has now been converted to electric and hybrid vehicles in an effort to convert all vehicles to electric.
